Sena Case for the Dell Axim x50 Series
Review By John Ohnstad
Category: cases

After participating in the Best of Software Awards for Pocket PC Magazine on their Board of Experts, Sena Cases was kind enough to offer us on the board a case for our respective device. I of course chose one for the Dell Axim and decided to go with the extended battery version just to see how bulky a case could get with the larger battery. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

Note: These cases were offered to us as a thank you for being on the Board of Experts, no solicitations for reviews were requested on behalf of Sena.

Sena has been manufacturing cases for quite some time and it was fun to finally try one of their cases on. The case I selected was a black case for the Dell Axim x51v with extended battery and ultra clip.

First impressions...

Each Sena Case comes packted with a nicely maded drawstring pouch in side a sturdily made box. All labeled with the Sena's web address to let you know what you are getting.

Upon removing the case, I thought there was a mistake with a case for the regular battery instead of the high capacity battery. After inserting my Axim in the case I was astonished at how slim the profile of the case with the device (and the extended battery) truly is. The leather surrounding the case is sturdy and durable. This is a flip-style case and with that comes the question of enclosure. This case has a magnetic enclosure that keeps the case nice and snug. After 3 weeks of heavy use, this case has not opened on accident, it has held up nicely.

The inside of the flip cover allows room for 2 SD Cards, 2 slots for business/credit cards, and a slide in pouch for money or additional business cards. Sena does have their logo displayed on the outside of the flip case. This might be a drawback for some.

"Sync-Able Case"

Sena is the only Case manufacturer I know of that tries to make all of their cases sync-able with the device inside them. With this case, this is accomplished with a thinner piece of leather near the bottom connector of the Axim. Again, after 3 weeks of heavy usage, there have been no issues of being able to sync my Axim in the cradle. This is a wonderful feature for me especially because I wear my device on my hip and it does become a hassle at times to pull the device out of the case and then place it in the cradle.

The ultra clip is the most durable clip I know of to secure your device to a belt. Sena and Vaja both use this clip and it is sturdy. I have not had an Ultra Clip ever go out on me.

Overall, this is an outstanding case with quality craftsmanship and amazing usability. For $50, you will be hard pressed to find a better case then the Sena. I would highly recommend it.
